Fairtrade Fortnight Coffee Morning. Please support the Coffee Morning here at LUFC, with Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate and so on – and a mini-sale into the bargain.  Bring some friends with you, to make this a really worthwhile event.  This is one of our regular Fairtrade projects, organised this time by ActionAid.

Saturday 11th

St John’s Church is hosting a chamber music concert at 7.30pm. Details are on the Concourse notice board.

Saturday 11th 10.30am – 12noon

ActionAid Coffee Morning: Please support the Coffee Morning with Fairtrade tea, coffee and chocolate – and a mini-sale into the bargain. A pack of 80 tea bags costs about £1.79, yet an Indian tea farmer earns only 15 pence per pack. If you don’t like the bitter taste of poverty, join in this country-wide event.

While We’re On the Subject of Music . . .Singing in Church should be worshipful, enjoyable, exciting and fun, we’d all agree.  The East Synod branch of the URC Musicians’ Guild is holding a singing training day at Christ Church URC, Chelmsford.  Singing is often the major way most of us participate in worship, and the aim of this day is to help everyone to enjoy singing even more.  There will be two expert teachers, who will foster the development of singers of all abilities, including those who are already very good.  There’s a charge of £6, although if you are under 18 you can get in free!  Full details and booking forms are available.

R & R Days? What are these? R & R stands for “Read the book and meet the authoR”, and this is a chance for you to meet Author Ann Morisy and discuss her book Journeying Out at Union Church, Totteridge, N12. So if you’re not going to Chelmsford on that day (see above), you might like to ask for a booking form, although you’d better hurry. We’re told that coffee and Danish pastries will be provided!

Discussions are in hand to look at developing ecumenical Youth Work in the borough. Revd Nigel Cowgill (Cann Hall Methodist) and Alison are meeting with the Leytonstone Business Forum in Leytonstone Library at 6.00 pm . Business Forum people have a real interest in the issues affecting young people locally, and together they will discuss ideas that hopefully can be explored more fully. Amy Mackay will share with the Forum her recent research into youth issues in the area. It’s early days, but please pray that this important meeting will be productive.
