Save Whipps Cross as our District General Hospital! Many thanks to everyone who signed the petition to keep
Whipps Cross as a fully operational District General The meeting was very helpful and I am asked to advise you that the only option that the staff and campaigners want to consider is the one that keeps Whipps Cross as a District General Hospital. The way they see things, anything else is just a step nearer complete closure which they feel would become inevitable.
Obviously there is a huge financial deficit here, which requires Whipps to save £16 million this year and £9 million next year. These budget restraints will have implications on the service being offered, yet it was pointed out that many NHS trusts are experiencing similar restraints, and if the Government upped its spending on the NHS by 10%, the problem would be greatly alleviated.
So is that it? Is that my Christmas message? Well, it’s relevant and its about local involvement, and it’s about getting involved with life where we are. So yes, I think it does reflect the Incarnation – of Jesus taking on our humanity, of Jesus getting involved with our world, and actually bringing about change. And as we gaze into the stable yet again, we see the Christ Child, not in the ideal place, not in the most pleasant surroundings, but among the very stuff of life, homeless, naked, and exposed to our frailties and human condition. Jesus, born for us so that we might have life in all its fullness. May we at this Christmastime not tire in our desire that others should discover him and be motivated to change the world too! Luke 2: 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward people. David, Amy, Robert and Esther join me in wishing you all a Blessed Christmas and a New Year full of wonder and love. May God richly bless you.
