Our Thankoffering Day Service

Jacqueline has thanked those who took part in the Thankoffering Day service in her article on page 3 but here is a bit more detail for our records.

Several people displayed their talents, including four song-writers, one of whose songs (or were they hymns?) is reproduced below. And we won’t quickly forget the sketch performed by our two professionals, Natasha and Bo, who created a scene at a dating agency. The girl applicant wanted a man who had everything – good looks, money, charisma, leadership and the rest, but couldn’t afford the fee: “200,000 – is that dollars or pounds?” She had to scale down her requirements, especially when she could only afford £4.17 (“Well you’d better say £3.17 ‘cos I’ve got to buy a bag of chips on the way home.”) So, and yes, you’ve guessed it, the dating agency man offered her One who would give her all that she’d ever need – and He came free!

Here is one of the songs written by a member of the congregation which was sung on that memorable morning:

Let the Spirit Move Through You

When the road you tread is dark,

And the obstacles too high,

When everything’s against you,

And it seems too hard to try,

When you’ve lost your sense of purpose,

The quicksand moves too fast,

There’s a light moves through you,

You know there’s hope at last.

Chorus: Let the Spirit move through you,

Let it shine on everything you do.

Let it lead you, through the day,

Let the Spirit illuminate your way.

When the burden is too heavy,

The distance is too far,

Keep your eyes focused

On heaven’s distant star.

There is a light to guide you,

The darkness cannot hide.

It lights the way before you,

And it’s burning deep inside.

When it seems you’ve no direction,

There’s no one to share the load,

His strength will hold you upright,

Bear you onwards down the road.

He walks along beside you

And there’s no turning back,

He’s holding out a candle,

To keep you on the track.
