Eco-Congregation

Our environmental concern

We believe that all faith groups should take the lead in encouraging everybody to protect and sustain God’s Creation – our planet home, with all its wonders and resources.

Therefore we are an “Eco-Congregation”, part of a nationwide project initiated by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. We won an “Eco-Congregation Award” in 2008 for what we had by then done – only the second church in the whole of Greater London at that time to have achieved this honour.  Waltham Forest’s Mayor came to unveil our award plaque.

We now have twenty solar photo-voltaic panels on our hall roof to reduce the amount of electricity we consume from fossil fuels, and are considering a rain-water harvesting installation.  We continue to look after a small public garden not far from the church, our magazine and noticeboards keep all users of our building informed about environmental matters, and we actively encourage recycling and the reduction of waste – in the church and in members’ own homes.  We propose to apply for a renewal of our Eco-Congregation Award in the coming months.
